Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The application is non-accessible for the following reasons:

  • There is no facility for the user to extend the duration of their session. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.2.1 (Timing Adjustable). The session will expire after two hours. We plan to add the functionality to enable users to increase the duration of by the end of 2021.

  • The PDFs generated by the application are not accessible. These are generated by a third-party tool which does not support the creation of accessible PDFs. This does not preclude users from completing an appeal. Identifying and implementing an alternative method of generating PDFs which does support accessibility is on the road map of the Software Development Services department. We aim to address this by end of 2021.

Disproportionate burden

N/A.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

This statement applies only to the Online Appeals web application.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Cardiff Met has a major project under way ensuring digital accessibility compliance with WCAG by September 2021. Digital accessibility statements will feature on all our user systems and websites, and those which are not compliant are in the process of being upgraded, including a project to replace the external website. Ongoing compliance monitoring and reporting will be overseen by the university Secretariat.

Within the Software Development Services team we are now prioritising accessibility as part of the development process for all new systems and when making changes to existing ones. Our software testing processes now include testing for accessibility using a variety of tools including assistive technologies and accessibility checkers. There is an ongoing process to address the accessibility issues in our older systems.
